Eastport Care is a social programme initialised and managed by Eastport.
The aim with Eastport Care is to improve the working conditions for our own as well as our suppliers’ employees, to protect the environment and to have a positive influence on the society.
The Eastport Care Programme observes the social principles and requirements of the SA8000 Standard (Social Accountability) being approved by the Norwegian Veritas (DNV). We are proud of being one of the few companies in Denmark which is certified according to SA8000. With an annual audit by DNV we make sure that we fulfil the obligations of the standards.

Social Accountability 8000 – SA8000
"SA8000 is a combined process and performance standard which can be used in all lines of business all over the world. SA8000 was the first totally independent social standard undergoing an audit. With point of reference in 13 different human right conventions the standard focuses on the company and its supplier with respect to the conditions for employees and workplace.
SA8000 puts in a claim on the performance of the company towards the following areas: children’s labour, forced labour, health and security, free choice of union and the right for collective negotiations, discrimination, discipline practice, working time, wage rate and management system. Further SA8000 has set up guidelines for the composition of management system of a company: company policy with current evaluation, employee representative, education programme, supplier control, possibility for and positive opinion towards notice of discrepancy between SA8000 and a company’s action, external communication, access to verification and files of documents in case of request to verification.
There are two ways to connect up with SA8000:
- SA8000 certification:
To obtain the SA8000 the different production facilities of a company is being audited by an independent controller proportional to the claim of the set SA8000. If requested each production unit can be audited separately. - 2.SA8000 Corporate Involvement Programme:
Companies with focus on sales or with a combination of production and sales can be part of SA8000 Corporate Involvement Programme (CIP). CIP is a two-step programme assisting companies in evaluation, implementation and reporting according to the SA8000.
SA8000 is established and managed by the Social Accountability International (SAI). Social Accountability International was established in 1997 and set up an international multi stakeholder advisory assembly consisting of among others academics, unions, human right associations, manufactures, suppliers, consultants and accountants.
SA8000 was introduced in 1997 and has been revised in 2001.”
